About Broken Bridge Shelter Services

Our journey from a small shelter to a comprehensive support organization

Our Story

Broken Bridge Shelter Services began with a simple but powerful vision: everyone deserves a safe place to call home and the support needed to build a stable future. What started as a vision for a small emergency shelter will grow into a comprehensive support organization in hopes of serving thousands of individuals and families each month as our hope is to support the millions of homeless and hungry individuals and families globally eventually but we must start somewhere and we must start now.

Our name reflects our mission. We build bridges over the broken places in people's lives, creating pathways from crisis to stability, from isolation to community, and from despair to hope. Every service we offer is designed to help people cross those bridges and reach solid ground.

Over the years, we've learned that effective support requires more than just a roof overhead. It requires addressing the whole person—their immediate needs, their long-term goals, their skills, their connections, and their dignity. This holistic approach guides everything we do.

Growth and Expansion

BBSS will grow to serve thousands of individuals annually. Our expansion is driven by community need and supported by dedicated staff, volunteers, and subscribers who believe in our mission.

It is the hope in the future of BBSS that we operate comprehensive programs that include emergency shelter, transitional housing, agriculture training, job readiness support, and community resource navigation. Each program is designed to work together, creating an integrated support system that addresses multiple needs simultaneously.

The 2-Year Program Model

At the heart of our approach is our comprehensive 2-year program model. We've learned that lasting change takes time. Our 2-year timeframe allows participants to not just address immediate crises, but to develop new habits, build skills, establish connections, and create sustainable pathways to independence.

During these two years, participants receive stable housing, case management, life skills training, employment support, and access to community resources. Participants also have access to our indoor agriculture container farm program where they can grow their own food. Any surplus foods harvested can be sold in local markets, Amazon.com, and other platforms as a home business to help build their stability and self-sufficient future.

This model recognizes that homelessness is rarely caused by a single factor, and sustainable solutions require addressing multiple needs over time. We hope to achieve at least an 89% success rate, but our true goal is 100% — because participants who complete the two-year program will be equipped to manage their own communities in the future.
